Triumph Begins Financial Education Class with Carpenter Art Garden Teen Staff

The Triumph Community Development Foundation presented a grant check in April to Carpenter Art Garden “CAG” in the Binghampton neighborhood in Memphis to support the teen staffing program they recently started. This summer, they are employing over 20 teens from the neighborhood that will be working in different areas of CAG’s properties: the art house, two community gardens, mosaics, sewing, bike repair and more. This Monday at their summer orientation, we kicked off a financial education class based on the book, Pay Yourself First.

Our team will be meeting with the Teen Staff several times over the summer mentoring them and providing training on topics such as: the importance of saving, creating short and long term goals, creating their first budget, and preparing for the future. The teens range in age of 14-18, so we’ll be working with them in small groups so we’ll be able to tailor the discussions around topics that interest them and be able to privately answer any questions they have around money.
